Sonny Connell
Age: 29
Occupation: Mortgage Loan Originator
Areas of Hunting Expertise: Ducks, Ducks and more Ducks!! Turkey and Deer
Favorite Method of Hunting: Hunting flooded timber, rivers and open fields in Arkansas and Tennessee
Biography:
Thanks to his father, Sonny’s obsession with duck hunting started out while he was in the womb, when his mother joined his father on one of his cold, early morning hunts in Eastern Arkansas. Living in Eastern Arkansas at the time, Sonny went on his first duck hunt at the age of 3 in Hughes, Arkansas. After his third grade year, his family moved to the small town of Covington, Tennessee in the far western part of the state near the Mississippi River. At the age of 14 his family moved to the family farm in Brownsville, Tennessee in the Hatchie River bottoms. This is where Sonny’s heart was at home. He could walk out any door in the house and some kind of wildlife would be at his hands. (Or within good shot.)
After high school, Sonny attempted the college life by going to Lambuth University in Jackson, Tennessee and later to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas. ASU was just way too close for his love, duck hunting. So needless to say, the short time he was at ASU his major was H2O, ducks and dogs. He returned home to join in the family mortgage business, where today he is a loan originator. During duck season it is hard to keep him focused on his work and being in the office. So if he is in, it is going to be in the later part of the afternoon, and hopefully with a good kill under his belt. When his father gets a bit irritated about how Sonny’s love for duck hunting means more to him than most important things in life, Sonny’s father has to be reminded the he too had a passion for hunting and is the one that opened Sonny’s eyes to the wildlife so many years ago.
Sonny now resides in Atoka, Tennessee with his wife Anna and their son, Stanton and a new daughter named Kathryn. Sonny still anticipates every opening day of a game season, whether it is deer, dove, duck or turkey. Lucky him, his wife is still home when he returns from his obsession, with a son at her knee biting to get his first hunt. When that day comes, it will be the start of a repeat cycle, and one that will make wonderful memories between father and son.
